Pakistan’s young opener, Saim Ayub, had another bad day with the bat as he scored his fourth duck of the Asia Cup 2025 during the Super 4 match against Bangladesh on September 25 in Dubai. The left-hander has struggled throughout the tournament, and his repeated failures are now a big concern for the team.

This time, Ayub fell to Mahedi Hasan, giving a simple catch to mid-on without scoring. With this, his total runs in the competition remain just 23 in six innings, a very poor return for someone trusted to give Pakistan a good start. Many fans and experts are now questioning how long the team management can continue with him at the top of the order.

Ayub’s run of low scores began with golden ducks against Oman and India in the group stage, followed by another duck against the UAE. He finally managed 21 runs against India in the Super Four stage but could not carry that form forward, scoring just 2 against Sri Lanka before another duck against Bangladesh.

Saim Ayub Bowling Skills Offer Hope

As much as he has had a tough time with the bat, Ayub has been effective with his off-spin bowling. He has taken six wickets in the tournament, five of which have come in the powerplay overs, and his economy has been only 5.60. He has more wickets than runs in this Asia Cup, which is almost unheard of in T20 cricket. His bowling has resulted in some value to the side, even if he fails to deliver with the bat.
