Before the start of the Asia Cup 2025 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), there was speculation on Sanju Samson’s position in the playing eleven. Many predicted that the Indian management would perhaps go with Jitesh Sharma in the lower order, even though the Suryakumar Yadav-led side decided to keep Samson in the middle order, instead of the opening position.

In the first two encounters of the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Samson’s batting service wasn’t required. In the opening clash against the United Arab Emirates, they chased down the target comfortably, while against Pakistan, the same situation occurred. However, going into the Super 4 stage, he could play a vital role in the game.

Before the Blue Brigade’s next fixture against Oman at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, the ace batter turned up in the practice session and was seen executing a no-look six during the session, thanks to his skills in his revamped role as the middle-order batter.

The no-look over boundary has been a common factor in modern-day T20 cricket, with the likes of Hardik Pandya and Dewald Brevis executing it regularly. The veteran batter has displayed his elegance and power in that shot before proceeding to the clean hit through the off-side, along with a cut through the stumps in that practice session.

The Kerala-born batter has featured in 38 T20I innings to nail 861 runs at an average of 25.32 and a strike rate of 152.38 with two fifties and three centuries at the best score of 111. In an overall 291 T20 innings, the Rajasthan Royals’ captain has clubbed 7629 runs at an average of around 30 and a strike rate of 137.01 with 48 half-centuries and six centuries at the best score of 119 runs.

Playing for the Kochi Blue Tigers in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL) 2025 during the encounter against the Alleppey Ripples, Samson smacked a no-look six as he seemed to have mastered the same skill with a high level of confidence and purple patch.
