Watch: Sher Malla dismisses Phil Salt on debut in ENG vs NEP T20 World Cup 2026 clash
On his very first ball of international career, the right-arm spinner, Sher Malla, has dismissed the opening batter of the England side at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during the T20 World Cup 2026.

Just minutes before the start of their T20 World Cup 2026 clash against England at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Nepal’s right-arm off-spinner, Sher Malla, got his debut cap from the former captain of the national side. And he ended up getting the massive wicket of Phil Salt on his very first ball before he fell on the ground while celebrating.
After a silent over of only five runs against Karan KC, Salt decided to free his arms and go after Sher Malla. It was a full and down the leg delivery as the right-handed batter swung his willow with full power, but was early in the shot and ended up getting the top edge as the ball went straight in the air and ended up in the hands of the short fine fielder.

Sandeep Lamichhane grabbed a great catch as the ball went miles in the air, and sometimes, under pressure, in the sunlight, it could be a difficult catch to pick. But he held it nicely as Malla went for the celebration and lost his balance and fell on the ground.

However, the ordeal didn’t end well for Malla. The number three batter of the England side, Jacob Bethell, went on the backfoot and clubbed the third delivery of the over the cover-point region for a boundary before pulling away the very next delivery with full power into the stands for a massive six.

Jos Buttler seemed to be settling at the crease in that moment as he went past Mahela Jayawardene with over 1016 runs in the history of the T20 World Cups to grab the third spot and remains only behind Virat Kohli’s 1292 runs and Rohit Sharma’s 1220 runs. But it didn’t end well for Buttler, who ended up with 26 runs in 17 balls at a strike rate of 152.
Bethell seemed to be in great form with 27 runs in just 13 balls as Nepal also picked up the wicket of Tom Banton to put early pressure on the opposition.
Brief Scores: England 72/3 (Jacob Bethell 33*, Sandeep Lamichhane 1/7) vs Nepal.
