It is worth noting that not only Iyer, Yashasvi Jaiswal was also left out from the list. The number four spot was filled in the squad, hence Iyer was not named in the list. Jaiswal’s position was also filled as Abhishek Sharma is the premier opener of the team.

The Indian squad for the Asia cup 2025 was announced on August 19. The 15 member squad included many key players such as Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav, Abhishek, Sharma, Sanju Samson and more. But one key player who was missing in the list was Shreyas Iyer. Iyer played crucial knocks for Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier league 2025.
He was the captain of the side and led the side to the finals of the tournament. He was also the captain of Mumbai team in Syed Mushtaq Ali trophy and won the title for the team. In IPL 2024, he was the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders and led the team to the title.

It came as a shocker to many fans that Iyer’s name was not in the list and several fans raised this concern on the Twitter. On August 20, Iyer was seen in Mumbai leaving in his car. The paparazzi captured the video and the video is going viral on the social media.

Gill might open alongside Abhishek
