In the third over of GT's innings, Archer bowled a super-fast ball at 147.7 km/h. The ball swerved in and went past Gill's bat, hitting his off-stump. Gill managed only 2 runs from 3 balls, and his wicket was lost when the team score was only 14/1. Interestingly, prior to the match, ex-Indian cricketer Irfan Pathan had stated that Gill would struggle to meet Archer's in-swinging balls, and that's precisely what occurred. Archer's speed and run-ups were too great for the skipper of GT.
