Watch: Steve Smith takes stunning catch for New South Wales during Sheffield Shield 2025-26 clash
Watch the video where the captain of the Australia Test side, Steve Smith, has taken a stunning catch for the New South Wales (NSW) during the Sheffield Shield 2025-26 clash against Victoria of Nathan Lyon's bowling.

Steve Smith has always been a great fielder in the slip region, irrespective of whether he stands for the pacers or the spinners. One of the best fielders in world cricket, Smith has a fine reflex that makes it easier for him to grab those stunning catches. The former Australia captain makes these catches look so easy, which isn’t the case at all in this game.
Smith displayed the same fielding skill during the ongoing Sheffield Shield 2025-26 clash for New South Wales against Victoria. It was one of the rare games ahead of the Ashes 2025/26, two weeks later for the curtain raiser at the Optus Stadium in Perth, where several top-class Australian bowlers featured in the encounter.
Nathan Lyon bowled a slow delivery to Fergus O’Neil, who cut the short ball close to the stumps and got an outside edge into the slip region, where Smith extended his hand to grab the catch before falling on the floor, but didn’t lose control of the ball. O’Neil went back to the dressing room for 24 runs in 47 balls with the help of three boundaries.

In the first innings of the clash, Peter Handscomb celebrated a fine 104-run knock in 210 balls with the help of 11 boundaries. Their opening batter, Campbell Kellaway, and the middle order batter, Sam Harper, notched up their respective fifties to push their team score of 382 runs as Starc picked up four wickets in 18 overs, while Lyon returned with 4/82.
Apart from Smith, none of the NSW batters could stand in the middle. The captain smashed 57 runs in 89 balls with the help of 10 boundaries, while the second-best score was 16 as they got bundled out for just 128 runs. Sam Elliot’s 5/26 was the star performer of the innings.
Marcus Harris’ 58 runs set a target of over 400 runs in the fourth innings for NSW, who again failed for 125. Smith again remained unbeaten on 56 as Victoria earned the victory by 300 runs.
