Watch- 'Strongly believe...'- Sachin Tendulkar on Shubman Gill's captaincy ahead of ENG vs IND 3rd Test
Sachin Tendulkar analyzes Shubman Gill's captaincy after India bounced back at Edgbaston.

The former India captain, Sachin Tendulkar, was present at Lord’s during the third Test of the five-match series against England. The series is nicely poised at 1-1 as the visitors made a strong comeback at Edgbaston through a 336-run victory. So much talk happened around Shubman Gill’s captaincy, who got the responsibility after Virat Kohli decided to hang up his shoes after three weeks before the trip.
Tendulkar reckons that more than the leader himself, it’s also vital how the 10 other players react to the decisions, and that becomes so much important. Shubman Gill, according to the batter, has looked calm and composed, while his batting form has also contributed to setting the series so far.

‘He’s been very good. He is very calm and composed. And I strongly believe that the rest of the 10 players also react to what he is. Whatever decisions he has taken, they have been measured decisions, well thought out. Because his batting is complementing that as well, because if a captain is in good form, then it makes a huge difference in decision making.’ Tendulkar expressed during a recent interaction on Star Sports.

Tendulkar also looked back at the second and opening red-ball fixtures. He observed that the dropped catches didn’t help the Blue Brigade at Leeds where the Ben Stokes-led side came hard at them in the fourth-innings chase. But India was fabulous at Edgbaston, thanks to Mohammad Siraj and Akash Deep’s inspiring bowling.

‘Because you have been in the right frame of mind to make those important calls. He is batting brilliantly. An opposition, you know, normally, they look to find weak areas in your batting and technique. At this point, he has been exceptional. I am very happy that we came back in the series after the disappointment. In the first match, a few catches were dropped. I have been brought up by learning that catching winning matches.’ The 52-year-old explained.
Gill started the series with 147 runs in the first innings of the Leeds Test before securing his highest score of the format, 269, in Birmingham. Even when they needed to add quickfire runs, Gill smashed 161 runs in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test.
