Former South Africa captain AB De Villiers holds a special place in the hearts of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans. Joining RCB back in 2011, de Villiers left an indelible mark during his over a decade-long stint with the franchise before retiring in 2021. Not only was he known for his exceptional batting prowess, but he also showcased remarkable skills in the outfield. One iconic moment etched in fans’ memories is his gravity-defying catch against SunRisers Hyderabad in 2018.
In a recent WPL 2024 match between RCB and Delhi Capitals at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, fans experienced a reminiscent moment when Australia all-rounder Georgia Wareham pulled off an incredible save, reminiscent of de Villiers’ spectacular catch in 2018. Wareham’s acrobatic effort halted what seemed like a certain six, drawing parallels to de Villiers’ memorable fielding display.

Despite Wareham’s heroics, RCB faced a tough challenge from Delhi Capitals, particularly from Smriti Mandhana, who played a stellar innings, scoring 74 runs off 43 balls with 10 boundaries and 3 sixes. However, the rest of the RCB batters couldn’t match her performance, and without star all-rounder Ellyse Perry, who was unavailable due to injury, RCB posted a total of 169 for nine.

In response, Delhi Capitals set a challenging target of 194 for five, with Shafali Verma contributing a quick-fire 50 off 31 balls. Mandhana’s dismissal added pressure on RCB, and left-arm spinner Jess Jonassen’s exceptional bowling spell (3/21) further compounded their woes, as RCB lost six wickets for just 18 runs. This defeat marked RCB’s first loss of the season, highlighting the competitive nature of the tournament.
