Vaibhav Sooryavanshi delivered a fearless blazing fifty to give India U19 a flying start against Afghanistan U19 in the U19 World Cup 2nd semi-final.

India Under-19 opener Vaibhav Sooryavanshi once again rose to the big occasion in the U19 World Cup 2026 semi-final. The 14-year-old smashed a brilliant 68 off just 33 balls against Afghanistan at the Harare Sports Club. Vaibhav's fearless knock put India on the right track in the tough chase. The innings proved his increasing confidence at the international level.
Vaibhav began the chase against a massive target of 311 runs. He scored his half-century in just 24 balls, keeping India on the right track in terms of the required run rate. His fearless knock reduced the pressure on the other batsmen. Vaibhav, the left-handed opener, proved to be mature beyond his age.
Vaibhav’s knock was packed with clean hitting and sharp intent. He struck nine fours and four sixes, scoring 44 runs in boundaries before reaching his fifty. The innings added to his impressive tournament run. He now has 196 runs from five matches, including three half-centuries.
Big Knock, Big Impact in Semi-Final
The Indian chase got momentum with the opening partnership. Vaibhav and Aaron George added 90 runs in just 57 balls. The partnership ensured India stayed in control despite the challenging target. Afghanistan’s bowlers struggled to slow the scoring rate.

Vaibhav’s innings ended when Nooristani Omarzai drew a false pull shot ball outside off stump. The top edge was caught by Osman Sadat at mid-wicket. Vaibhav walked back disappointed but had already shifted the momentum India’s way. As of writing, India remain well placed in the chase after his match-defining knock.
Earlier, Afghanistan Under-19 posted 310 for 4, built on centuries from Faisal Shinozada and Uzairullah Niazai. Their effort set up a stiff challenge. However, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s explosive start ensured India responded with confidence in this high-pressure semi-final.
