After a cakewalk in the massive chase for India against Afghanistanin the semifinal of the U19 World Cup, they locked horns with England in the final of the event against England. The two unbeaten sides met each other at the Harare Sports Club in Harare, with India’s captain, Ayush Mhatre, winning the toss and deciding to bat first. 

Vaibhav Suryavanshi smashed a fine six on the opening day of the sixth over, as he upper cut the short and length delivery with power against Alex Green for a massive six before he went after James Minto as the southpaw sent the bowlers over the rope for another massive six.

The next four deliveries of the over saw three boundaries being smashed around the park as the blue brigade raced away to 71/1 in just nine overs of the innings. Suryavanshi continued his onslaught batting from his end as he brought the big shot against the flighted delivery to clear the long-on region to complete his half-century in just 32 deliveries.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi gets his 50 in U19 WC 2026 final 

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi becomes the eighth Indian batter to register a fifty-plus score in a U-19 World Cup Final. He got full support from the other end with captain Mhatre getting back in form with a solid knock of 34 runs at a run-a-ball with the help of five boundaries and one six, at a strike rate of nearly 100.

Earlier in the game, India lost their opener and centurion from the previous contest, Aaron George, on nine runs as they made their way to 107/1 in 14 overs of the innings. Suryavanshi was needed to put a massive score on the board, which he had missed out on getting in the previous few games, where he notched up fifty, but he didn’t get the three-run mark.

For England, their opening bowler, Sebastian Morgan, was excellent, thanks to 0/18 in four overs, while Manny Lumsden was thumped for no prize, giving away 20 runs in three overs at an economy rate of 10.7.
