Once the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) announced that Virat Kohli would be part of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26 first two rounds for them against Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, there was a different energy and joy among the fans to see the veteran batter live. The game was supposed to take place at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru before being shifted to the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

Kohli came to the tournament with full rhythm in ODI cricket as he celebrated two centuries and as many unbeaten half-centuries in the last four innings against Australia and South Africa, respectively. He was playing the game with his longtime friend Ishant Sharma on the side under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, who was also trying his best to keep his position in the Indian ODI squad.

Kohli started the 299-run chase with a lofted boundary over extra cover before driving the full-length delivery between cover and point region for the same result. The most impressive shot from Coley’s bat came over extra cover, which he nailed off the back foot for a six.

After being dropped on 32 at mid-on, Kohli reached his 50 in just 30 deliveries with a slap over point for another boundary. With a lofted six down, the ground marched himself into the 80s before he smashed a gun-barrel-straight hit of Nitish Reddy. He later thumped the same bowler on the up to the long off for another boundary.

The right-handed batter finally brought up his century with another massive whack over the long-onregion but did not show any massive celebration for the landmark. He ended his knock on 131 runs in just 101 deliveries at a strike rate of nearly 130 with the help of 14 boundaries and three sixes.

Apart from Kohli, another former captain, Rohit Sharma, also celebrated another century for Mumbai against Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur as they made a successful chase against Sikkim by eight wickets. Both of them are expected to feature in another round of the tournament two days later.
