Just a couple of days ago, Virat Kohli notched up a fine century to complete the successful chase against Andhra Pradesh at the Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru and looked in supreme touch with the bat. He was expected to put in another such marathon knock during the second game of the Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT) 2025/26 against Gujarat at the same venue.

Kohli arrived at the crease early with the dismissal of Delhi’s opening batter, Priyansh Arya, after the opposition won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface that was offering a little help in the early morning. Kohli drilled a fine straight drive to open his account before using his wrists to play the trademark flick shots.

In just 29 balls, the former Indian captain celebrated another fifty in List-A cricket and looked set to convert it into another century. Meanwhile, Gujarat used Aarya Desai, the left-arm spinner, whose length was demolished by the right-handed batter as he attempted a reverse-sweep.

However, he couldn’t get the three figure mark at the end as the other left-arm spinner, Vishal Jayswal, got the ball spin to get past the outside edge of Kohli, who was drawn out of the crease beautifully to get stumped for 77 runs in 61 balls with the help of 13 boundaries and one six at a strike rate of more than 126. It was a superb delivery to break the shackles for Gujarat.

Kohli has been in tremendous form with three half-centuries and two centuries in his last five innings of the List-A cricket. That perhaps has ruled out the noise on his inclusion for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Kohli smashed a fine unbeaten half-century against Australia in Sydney before celebrating two successive centuries against South Africa in Ranchi and Raipur. On the series decider against the Proteas in Vizag, he drilled an unbeaten half-century to complete their 2-1 series victory.

Latest updated scorecard of Delhi vs Gujarat, VHT 2025/26
