Watch: “Wisdom fails…”- Atul Wassan reacts to Pakistan’s forfeit to India clash in T20 WC 2026
The former Indian star player, Atul Wassan, reacted to the forfeit decision of the Pakistan government for the clash against India in the upcoming 2026 edition of the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

The former Indian cricketer, Atul Wassan, questions whether, even though the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to forfeit their group-stage clash against India on February 15 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, they do the same when the two teams potentially meet in the final of the event.
Late on February 01, less than a week before the start of the T20 World Cup 2026, the Pakistan government revealed that they had given the green light to their team to feature in the World Cup, but not against India. This will see the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) getting full two points from the fixture.

“I feel a little sorry for them, and I'm also a little surprised. What do they want? As they say, "When destruction is imminent, wisdom fails." Because if Pakistan doesn't play this match and concede the points, and then you meet India later, will you still not play? So if you've decided this, then you haven't left ICC with any option.” Atul Wassan expressed in a recent interview.
Atul Wassan questions Pakistan’s stance in potential T20 WC 2026 final vs India
Pakistan is in the same group A with India, the Netherlands, the United States of America, and Namibia. They begin the campaign against the Dutch on February 07, which will also be the opening day of the event. Wassan also stated the false conception of ICC and BCCI being the same.

“ICC will have to kick them out because it would be blackmail, wouldn't it? They don't know the financial loss will be significant. They are trying to find every possible way to spite India, to retaliate against India. They don't understand that they're heading towards ruin. Maybe the Pakistani players will relax, because they know they're going to lose anyway, so the humiliation will be less.” Wassan shed light.
“But even if you lose, sanctions will be imposed, you won't get the participation fee. They have a misconception that ICC and BCCI are the same, but they're not. Just because we have Jay Shah being the head of the ICC doesn't mean that the BCCI owns the ICC.” The former Indian player concluded.
