Weather forecast for Day 05 of ENG vs IND 5th Test at Kennington Oval
Weather forecast for Day 05 of ENG vs IND 5th Test at Kennington Oval.

When the last heavy spell of rain came during the fourth evening session of the fifth Test between England and India at the Kennington Oval, the umpires called for the covers due to poor light. After nearly 40 minutes, both of them called it off for the day as the thrilling five-Test series entered its 25th and last day. Many reckoned that the officials could have extended the day with the sunshine in the late afternoon at the Oval.
However, it was mostly a precautionary decision from them, given that the outfield soaked a lot of water due to the rain, and that could make it hard for the players to field. Any awkward slip in the field could also lead to severe injuries, which no one would hope for. England need 35 runs with four wickets in hand, given Chris Woakes comes to bat with a broken shoulder.
Both sides will have a clear shot at the series results. The weather forecast for Monday (August 04) in London says that it will mostly be cloudy and windy, with a couple of showers predicted at 6:30 p.m.

However, the first session is fully clear with a 3:30 pm IST start. In that case, even with the brief shower expected at around the lunch break, it should be enough for the result to come in either way. The weather has been a feature in this Test, given that it has rained on three of the four days so far.
The bad light forced the players off the field at around 5:30 p.m., when at least half an hour’s play was possible apart from the extended session, which could go till 11 pm IST. For India, the issue will be that the home side would get another chance to use the heavy roller on the surface, which could ease the pitches for the first seven overs.
Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj are expected to share the ball for India on day five, where they will have to balance the field position between being aggressive and defensive, to pick wickets but also not leak runs easily.
