Yashasvi Jaiswal: From Struggles to Success

Yashasvi was just 13 years old when he left his village Suriyawan in Uttar Pradesh and moved to Mumbai to follow his cricketing dreams. But life in the big city was tough. With no place to stay, he found shelter at a dairy shop, where the owner allowed him to sleep on the condition that he would help with the shop’s work. But since Yashasvi spent most of his time playing cricket, he couldn’t manage the job, and eventually, he was asked to leave. With nowhere to go, he started living in a tent at Azad Maidan, a famous cricket ground in Mumbai. He stayed with security guards and, to survive, he even sold pani puri in his free time.

Yashasvi never gave up on his dream. His first big moment came when he scored 319 runs in a single match of the Harris Shield tournament. That innings changed everything. He started scoring heavily for Mumbai’s Under-16 and Under-19 teams, and in 2018, he was selected for India’s Under-19 team.
