“What do people achieve…” - Tabraiz Shamsi breaks silence on shoe celebration
Shedding light on the incident, Shami said that he received immense backlash for the celebration which had nothing to with the player.

India and South Africa were playing a T20I on 12 December 2023 in Gqeberha. South Africa spinner, Tabraiz Shamsi brought up phone celebration, where he took out his shoe and put it on his ear after he grabbed Suryakumar Yadav’s wicket. Though the celebration was his trademark style, it was not well received by several fans on the social media.
Shedding light on the incident, Shami said that he received immense backlash for the celebration which had nothing to with the player. He even said that not only him, his family too received derogatory messages online after the incident traversed. Recently, he took to twitter and reminisced his statement again to clear the air over celebration and conveyed what he and his family went through.
“What do people achieve by abusing players and even the player's families? Do u feel good about yourself after that?
Do u feel like a big man after swearing at a player or sending abusing messages to their wives and partners? It just shows the world that you're a horrible person,” Shamsi wrote on Twitter.

South Africa tour India in November
South Africa will tour India to play 2 Tests, 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is. The long tour will start from first Test on 14 November 2025 in Kolkata to the last T20I on 19 December 2025 in Ahmedabad. It would be interesting to see if Tabraiz Shamsi makes the cut in the T20I and ODI squad and simmering rivalry will have another chapter to its lore.
