There was incredible interest behind Karthik Sharma, the wicket-keeper batter of Rajasthan, when his name popped up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi. The 19-year-old is expected to be a new talent in the league, having the ability to smash the ball around the park with brutal power.
The bidding war for Karthik Sharma started with the Mumbai Indians at INR 30 lakh before the Lucknow Super Giants and the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) went for each other for the youngster for a price of INR 2,80 crore. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also joined them in the bidding process and continued the battle till 12.80 crore.

Just when it seemed like the Super Giants were about to complete the signing, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) entered the deal and started to increase the price from INR 13.20 crore. But Chennai were firm and crystal clear on their decision to sign the player and eventually bought him for a price of INR 14.20 crore.

Karthik Sharma has been a renowned player for Rajasthan at such a young age. In 11 innings of the shortest format, the right-handed wicket-keeper batter has overall smashed 334 runs at an average of 30.36 and a strike rate of 162.92 with the help of two half-centuries at the best score of 58 runs. Recently, he smashed 46 runs against Karnataka in Ahmedabad and drilled 35 against Tamil Nadu.
A clean striker and a lower-order finisher of the game, Karthik is known for smashing the big six. At 19, he was signed up by JSW, who managed several top athletes like Neeraj Chopra, giving a picture of the talent’s potential.
Clips of his power hitting have already traveled wide, with the likes of Ravichandran Ashwin and Kevin Pietersen being impressed with his skills. His late order for power has added depth and muscle to the batting. He has played a key role in Rajasthan winning six of their seven group stage games of SMAT 2025/26.
