A well-known Indian domestic cricketer from Himachal Pradesh is set to play for Uganda in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025. All-rounder Sumeet Verma confirmed this development through his Instagram post. He thanked the Uganda Cricket Association for this opportunity.

This is not the first time that an Indian player is set to represent an African nation. There are multiple Indian domestic cricketers who are all set to feature for the Uganda national team. 38-year-old Raghav Dhawan from Himachal Pradesh, who played in the Ranji Trophy last season, has already represented the African nation.

Sumeet will be the second cricketer from Himachal to play for Uganda. Dinesh Nakrani (Saurashtra), Shrideep Mangela (Mumbai), and Gaurav Tomar (Uttar Pradesh) are three other Uganda players who have played in Indian domestic cricket in the past.

Who is Sumeet Verma?

Sumeet is a 34-year-old batting all-rounder hailing from Bhumti. His domestic stats are impressive. In 27 first-class matches, the middle-order batter scored 1367 runs in total at an average of 34.17, including a highest score of 160. In List A cricket, he amassed 974 runs in 58 matches at an average of 22.65. And in 54 T20s, the right-handed batter has 607 runs in his bag in 45 innings, at an average of only 15.54. In this format, he has five half centuries. With the Uganda national team, Sumeet will get international exposure and experiences as well. But his batting style suits the multi-day cricket format rather than limited-over cricket. It'll be interesting to see how he will perform with the African nation.
