India’s T20I vice-captain, Shubman Gill, is set to miss the fourth T20I of the five-match series against South Africa at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow with a foot injury. That’s a massive blow to the right-handed batter, who has been trying his best to get back his T20I form after poor returns in the first three clashes of the series.
Gill picked up a neck injury during the opening test of the series at the Indian Gardens in Kolkata, which resulted in him missing the second Test match in Guwahati and also being ruled out of the three-match ODI series against the Rainbow Nation.

After two failures in the T20 series in Cuttack and New Chandigarh, Gill looked to be back in his T20I touch, but his runs are giving much confidence to the management and the selectors. Now he is going to miss the 4th T20I in Lucknow with a foot injury that he suffered during a net session on the eve of the game.
Shubman Gill to miss India vs South Africa 4th T20I with foot injury
In the first couple of games of the series, Gill returned with scores of 4 and a duck in he first two games before a run-a-ball 28 in the third game. The team, however, has been trying to trust his abilities. Although the foot injury has come at the wrong time, just a game before India will need to announce their T20 World Cup 2026 squad.
Gill’s absence may now allow Sanju Samsung to open the innings. Samsung’s last T20I appearance was in October this year against Australia in Melbourne. It will also be his first appearance in this home series against South Africa.
The injury status of Gill is yet to be known. Meanwhile, the fourth T20I has been delayed due to the dense fog, with the toss yet to happen even after being pushed back from an hour it was scheduled to happen. The fifth T20 of the series will take place on December 19 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
