Why Test openers fear Jasprit Bumrah; Check this stat

Indian right-arm fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has maintained his dominant bowling performance in the first session of the India vs South Africa two-match Test series. He once again proved why he is dangerous against the Test openers.

After South Africa chose to bat first in the Kolkata Test on Friday (November 14) morning, the Proteas openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton provided a solid start with a 50+ partnership. However, the Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah produced an incredible spell to destroy the visitors' top order.

After the 57-run partnership for the opening wicket, while South Africa were dreaming of a strong first innings total, they suddenly found themselves at 71/3. In the 11th over, India got the first breakthrough when Bumrah bowled Rickelton for 23 runs, as it was a special delivery that had a late movement to beat the South African opener and hit the off stump. 

In his next over, Bumrah dismissed another set opener Aiden Markram. It was another unplayable delivery, as the ball touched the gloves of the Proteas opener, and the Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant dived in time to complete the catch. Later, the Indian left-arm chinaman Kuldeep Yadav dismissed the South African skipper Temba Bavuma for only three runs. However, Wiaan Mulder and Tony de Zorzi then controlled the innings with a solid partnership as South Africa scored 105/3 at lunch. 

At lunch on the opening day of the first Test, Jasprit Bumrah had the bowling figures of 7-4-9-2. With those two wickets, Bumrah put himself on top of the record for the most times dismissing both openers in Test since 2018, as he has dismissed openers 13 times in this period.
