Will Harshit Rana be called up again for ongoing ENG vs IND 2025 Test series?

The inclusion of Anshul Kamboj ahead of the England vs India 4th Test (ENG vs IND 4th Test) came as a surprise. Kamboj, with multiple abilities to thrive on England pitches, is considered a trump card for Team India. Before that, Akash Deep's sudden entry in the starting lineup proved hugely effective; he took a 10-wicket haul in his bag.

So far in the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy, apart from Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, other pacers of the current squad did not prove their talents with consistency. Apart from the on-field performance, the Indian team management has to deal with players's workload issues also. The injury of Jasprit Bumrah during the previous Border Gavaskar Trophy was a lesson for the board. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar have already informed the pace spearhead that he would play 3 out of 5 tests against England. They may have to think about another pacer's workload; that is Mohammed Siraj. He played three back-to-back matches and can play the fourth game at Old Trafford also.

If Bumrah participates in the 4th Test, having already played a couple of matches in the series, then the team management can drop him from the 5th Test. With this scenario where Bumrah and Siraj's workload is under the scanner, Prasidh Krishna's underperformance, and the injuries of Arshdeep Singh and Akash, the equation has become complicated for the 5th Test, which can be decisive to fix the fate of the series.

India to consider another surprise entry?

If we consider the above-mentioned fast bowlers with doubts, then, as of now, the team is left with only one full-time pacer—Anshul Kamboj. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Shardul Thakur also can generate the speed, but here are issues also. Reddy is struggling with injury, and Shardul performed without making any positive impression. 

Because of this scenario, the name Harshit Rana has started to float around. Like Anshul, Rana played for the India 'A' team against the England Lions and claimed a wicket. Before the beginning of the series, Rana was considered as one of the possible names for a backup option. Multiple injury crises and issues with performance and workload may have forced the India team management to rethink their strategy.
