Will Shubman Gill bat in second innings of IND vs SA 1st Test?

With India struggling at 72/6 in the second innings of the opening Test against South Africa at the Eden Gardens in their chase of 124 runs in the fourth innings of the contest, the interesting question is whether their captain, Shubman Gill, would come out to bat as the home side kept struggling to find the runs in the middle.

Gill walked at number four in the second morning session of the game during the first innings and played a lovely sweep over the square leg for a boundary, and immediately took off his helmet before checking his neck. The physio rushed onto the ground to check his condition as the Punjab-born was in serious pain and left the field.

Gill, who has been in tremendous form in the longest format with four centuries during his previous series against England in the United Kingdom, didn’t come out to bat in the first innings as the home side got bundled out for 189, taking a slight lead of 30 runs.

The ball has been spinning around the ground with the batters not showing application with their skills and kept getting dismissed against the spinning deliveries, especially against Simon Harmer, who had already picked up his eighth wicket in the match.

“Captain Shubman Gill had a neck injury on Day 2 of the ongoing Test against South Africa in Kolkata. He was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day's play. He is currently under observation in the hospital. He will take no further part in the Test match. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team. The BCCI gave the update.

India lost their seventh wicket in the second innings, and still Gill didn’t walk out to bat, which is a sign of the right-handed batter staying in the hospital, and India would be batting with 10 batters effectively in the encounter. Their batters struggled massively against the spinners in both innings.
