Australia Women claimed a dominating nine-wicket win against Pakistan Women in the Group A match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024.

After Australia Women chose to bowl first, Pakistan Women scored only 82 runs before losing all wickets. In reply, Australia Women chased the small target 11 overs after losing only their opener Beth Mooney.

Ashleigh Gardner took four wickets

Pakistan Women had a slow start as they finished the powerplay with 23/2. There was no strong partnership in the Pakistan innings as the highest partnership was for 19 runs between Aliya Riaz and Iram Javed for the sixth wicket. Only the no.6 batter Aliya Riaz (26) reached the 20-run mark in that innings.

Ashleigh Gardner’s four wickets (4-0-21-4) helped Australia Women to bundle out their opponents for a cheap total. Also, Annabel Sutherland (2/15) and Georgia Wareham (2/16) picked up two wickets each.

Australian top-orders dominated

In reply, Australian openers Beth Mooney and captain Alyssa Healy provided a solid start with a quick 36-run partnership for the first wicket. Mooney scored run-a-ball 15 runs before Sadia Iqbal dismissed her. Meanwhile, Healy and Ellyse Perry were confidently finishing the game.

Alyssa Healy retired hurt

However, during the 10th over of the innings, Healy was injured on her calf during her second run. After scoring 37 off 23 balls, Healy retired hurt. Earlier in the first over of the match, Australian pacer Tayla Vlaeminck injured her shoulder.

Soon, Perry and Gardner successfully guided the team to another dominating victory. While Perry scored 22 not out off 23 balls, Player of the Match Gardner scored seven not out off five balls.

Australia Women leading Group A points table

With their latest victory, Australia Women are leading the Group A points table of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024 with six points after winning all their first three matches. Earlier, the six-time champions Australia Women beat Sri Lanka Women and New Zealand Women. While Australia Women are unsurprisingly moving towards their semi-final qualification, Pakistan Women need huge luck to open any semi-final qualification opportunity.
