In the opening game of the Nigeria Invitational Women's T20I Tournament 2025-26, Rwanda Women opener Fanny Utagushimaninde created history with her century on Women's T20I debut.
On Friday (March 20), Rwanda Women faced Ghana Women at Lagos. After Rwanda Women chose to bat first, they scored 210/3 in 20 overs, thanks to the century by the debutant opener Fanny Utagushimaninde. In reply, Ghana Women were restricted to 88/8 in 20 overs, as Rwanda Women won by 122 runs.
In the Ghana Women's innings, which recorded three run-outs, the no.3 batter Kate Awuah (31) was the only one to manage the 15-run mark.
With this strong win, Rwanda Women earned two points in their first game of the tournament.
Who is Fanny Utagushimaninde?
Debuting at the age of 15 years and 223 days, Fanny Utagushimaninde scored an impressive century, as she scored 111 not out off 65 balls with 17 fours. According to the ESPNcricinfo scoreboard, Fanny completed her historic century in 59 balls, where the right-handed batter hit 17 fours.

Fanny set two new records in Women's T20I history.
- Fanny became the first debutant batter to record a century in Women's T20I history. Meanwhile, men's T20I has experienced four centuries by the debutants, with the highest score of 108 not out by Matthew Spoors from Canada against the Philippines at Al Amerat in 2022.
- Fanny records the youngest centurion in Women's T20I history. The previous record was 16 years and 233 days by Prosscovia Alako from Uganda Women vs Mali Women at Rwanda in 2019. In fact, Fanny holds the record for the youngest century in overall T20I history, including the men's T20Is, where the record is 18 years and 280 days old Gustav Mckeon from France (vs Switzerland at Vantaa in 2022).
