India captain Suryakumar Yadav has not shown any concern over the form of their left-handed opening batter, Abhishek Sharma, as he reckoned that the team management would not be reading anything into his lean patch. Sky spoke to the press on the eve of their Super 8 clash against South Africa in the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

The Southpaw missed one of India’s group-stage matches in the tournament and is yet to open its account in the campaign. Abhishek Sharma registered three successive ducks in all outings against the United States of America, Pakistan, and the Netherlands.

Two days before the game, when India came to their evening practice session, their bowling coach, Morne Morkel, also echoed the same sentiment as he felt that the management had not spoken a single word on the form of the left-handed opening batter who has been their leading T20 since the end of the last T20 World Cup 2024.

“Absolutely no discussion in our team group about that. He is a world-class player. So far in the tournament, luckily, we've had other guys standing up with Abhishek not scoring the runs you would like. We are going through a very important phase of the World Cup now, and I'm pretty sure he's going to deliver.Morkel told.

After this clash against South Africa, India will make their way to the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai for the second encounter against Zimbabwe before they make their trip to the Eden Gardens in Kolkata for the last Super 8 clash against the West Indies.
