Harleen Deol played a key role for UP Warriorz with the bat in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 on Thursday. She made 64 off 39 balls against Mumbai Indians to post the first win of the season for her team. It came at a crucial time for both the team and the player.

The knock came just a day after Harleen was retired out against Delhi Capitals. She was batting on 47 off 36 balls when the team management decided to send Chloe Tryon in with three overs left. The call was taken by the support staff led by coach Abhishek Nayar. The decision surprised many watching the game.

Her composed knock against Mumbai Indians earned her the Player of the Match award. In the presentation, she was questioned about being retired in the last match. Harleen gave a well-balanced response and showed maturity in understanding the decision taken by the team. She replied that it depended on the situation in the match.

“Chloe Is Someone Who Can Hit Big” - Harleen Responds

“Yesterday also I was batting well, but as you saw today, how Chloe can change the scenario. For me, I just took it in that way. Chloe is someone who can hit big, so probably that didn't go our way. That is the only thing which happened,” said Harleen during the post-match presentation.

She further spoke about her mindset and preparation after that match. “It's just normal preparation for me. Nothing different. I was batting well yesterday, also. There's no point in just keeping stressing on that thing. Honestly, yesterday it gave me a lot of confidence, in fact, because the first two games didn't go my way. But then I went on and figured out a few things, I was just trying to overhit, this wicket is not something which you know for me as a batter to just keep overhitting and just more on timing-based things,” she added.

UP Warriorz captain Meg Lanning praised Harleen’s mindset after the Delhi game. Lanning said she spoke to Harleen and was impressed by how well she handled the situation. Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet Kaur admitted she was surprised by the retirement decision but praised Harleen’s positive approach. Despite the win, UP Warriorz remain at the bottom of the table, while Mumbai Indians stay second.
