In the group stage of the tournament, Zimbabwe went on to win against Australia and Sri Lanka. In Group B, the Sikandar Raza-led team captured the top spot of the points table as the undefeated team in the group, surpassing the co-host Sri Lanka. They outclassed the Sri Lanka cricket team on February 20 by 6 wickets and 3 balls to spare.
In the round of eight, Zimbabwe is placed in Group 1 along with India, South Africa, and the West Indies. On February 26, at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, they will face the co-host and the defending champions of India. Ahead of the match, a Zimbabwe cricket fan issues a warning to Suryakumar Yadav and his team. The fan believes that the Chevrons have all the chances to become victorious against a strong side like Team India too.
"Whoever comes in front of us, whether it’s India, South Africa, or the West Indies, we will defeat them. Beating India is not a big deal for us. We are now world champions. We have beaten Australia and Sri Lanka in Colombo and become group champions. We are ready to face everyone," the Zimbabwe cricket fan said with pure confidence.
Zimbabwe fan issues warning to Team India in T20 World Cup
Since the inception of the Twenty20 cricket in the international format, India has dominated Zimbabwe. According to ESPNcricinfo, from 2010 to 2024, out of 13 matches, India claimed 10, whereas Zimbabwe tasted victory against India 3 times only.
Last time when Zimbabwe defeated India in a T20I match, Avesh Khan, Mukesh Kumar, and Khaleel Ahmed were the pacers in the playing XI, and Shubham Gill was the captain. On July 6, 2024, Zimbabwe, the home team, outplayed India by 13 runs. Raza and Tendai Chatara got 3 wickets each in the winning effort.
