GT vs RR, IPL 2023: Match 23, Stats Report At Narendra Modi Stadium

A captains knock from Sanju Samson followed by sensational power hitting from Shimron Hetmyer handed Rajasthan Royals their first win over Gujarat Titans by margin of three wickets in match number 23 of IPL 2023 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad

RR won the toss and opted to field first, Trent Boult struck in the third ball of the innings as Saha departed for 3-ball 4 runs.  Sai Sudharsan then joined hands with Shubman Gill as the duo put together 28 runs for the second wicket, a fumble in the fifth over cost Sai Sudharsan’s wicket as GT were left reeling at 32/2 at the close of fifth over. However, Shubman Gill kept the scoreboard ticking, he along with skipper Hardik Pandya added 59 runs in just 33 balls.

Yuzvendra Chahal then broke the good going partnership as Hardik Pandya departed for 19-ball 28 runs. Soon Shubman Gill departed for well made 45 courtesy of good bowling from Sandeep Sharma. Good cameos from David Miller (46 from 30) and Abhinav Manohar (27 from 13) helped GT post a very good total of 177/7 in 20 overs. For RR, Sandeep Sharma was the pick of bowlers for his spell of 2/25 in 4 overs. Chasing 178, RR lost their in-form openers quickly courtesy of a lethal bowling performance from GT’s quicks as Jos Buttler registered his second duck in IPL. 

Devdutt Padikkal and Sanju Samson kept the chase lively by keeping the scoreboard ticking as the duo added 43 runs for third wicket before Rashid Khan struck twice in two overs sending Padikkal and Riyan Parag to hut in the course of just 12 balls. Shimron Hetmyer then joined Sanju Samson as the duo led the recovery with power-hitting, they both went bonkers against the likes of Rashid Khan and Alzarri Joseph scoring 35 runs in 2 overs. Sanju Samson raised to his 19^th IPL fifty.

Noor Ahmad came in as impact player and broke the good going partnership by dismissing Samson for 60. Hetmyer then took the charge from Samson with his serious hitting down the order smoking boundaries for fun. Hetmyer finished the proceedings with a 25-ball fifty along with blistering cameos from Dhruv Jurel and Ravichandran Ashwin, helping RR edge past GT by margin of three wickets.
