The enormous scores teams have put up from time to time are one of the reasons the Indian Premier League has been a massive success. While scoring over 200 runs is uncommon in T20 cricket, IPL sides have done so regularly.

The IPL has continually created thrilling and memorable moments for fans worldwide, with some of the biggest stars in the game representing eight franchise clubs. In the IPL, high run totals are not unusual.

Today, we look at the highest totals ever recorded on an IPL scoreboard. 

Royal Challengers Bangalore (263/5) vs Pune Warriors India

The April 23, 2013, evening was eventful in the Indian Premier League. The famous IPl team Royal Challengers Bangalore made a massive run total of 263 against Pune Warriors India, losing only five wickets. The RCB’s best player Chris Gayle produced 175 runs and stayed unbeaten. 

Gayle smashed 13 fours and 17 monster sixes in the quickest century in IPL history. At the same time, AB de Villiers smoked 31 off only eight balls to assist Gayle in achieving that massive total. 

Pune could not even come close in reply, being reduced to 133/9 in their 20 overs, allowing RCB to win by a large margin. 

Lucknow Super Giants (257/5) vs Punjab Kings

Lucknow Super Giants nearly broke RCB’s near-unbeatable record by scoring 257 runs in 20 overs while losing only five wickets. LSG batted first against Punjab Kings, and every member on the side came out and began hitting boundaries. Marcus Stoinis and Nicholas Pooran were the MVPs, scoring 72 points off 40 shots and 45 points off 19 tries, respectively. PBKS batted well and would have won any other day but fell short by 56 runs despite reaching 201.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (248/3) vs Gujarat Lions

Unsurprisingly, the Bengaluru-based franchise has the third-highest team score in the IPL. This one happened in IPL 2016 against the now-defunct Gujarat Lions. It is unusual for two players to score centuries in the exact T20 match. In 2016, RCB completed the feat against the Gujarat Lions. AB de Villiers scored 129 runs in 52 deliveries, while Virat Kohli made 109 runs in 55 balls. The Gujarat Lions were held to 104 runs in 20 overs. The pair united for a record-breaking 229-run second-wicket partnership as RCB cruised to 248/3 in 20 overs.

Chennai Super Kings (246/5) vs Rajasthan Royals

Regarding the most incredible score in the cash-rich tournament, Chennai Super Kings, the four-time IPL winners, are not far behind. In the 2010 IPL, Chennai Super Kings rode a magnificent 127 from M. Vijay and scored 246/5 against the Rajasthan Royals at MA Chidambaram Stadium. This is still the fourth most incredible score in IPL history.

RR also performed admirably but only managed 223 runs. Murali Vijay of CSK was named the match’s MVP after scoring 127 runs in 56 balls.

Kolkata Knight Riders (245/6) vs Kings XI Punjab

In May 2018, Kings XI Punjab, also known as Punjab Kings, faced the power of Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunil Narine. Batting first, the guys in purple crushed 245/6 in 20 overs, paced by Narine’s 36-ball 75. The goal would always be enormous to chase down, and while Punjab came close, they could only achieve 214/8. The fury of Narine became too much for Punjab to bear on that particular day. KXIP fought hard, with skipper Ravichandran Ashwin and the squad giving their best, but it was all in vain. KKR won by a score of 31 runs.
