List of most hundreds in a Test series for India

Another century for India captain Shubman Gill in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. The batter smashed his 4th century on the 5th day of the 4th Test at Old Trafford, Manchester, including a 269-run knock in Birmingham. Today (July 27, 2025), Gill's rock-solid innings came to an end after scoring 103 runs. With the help of the knock, the skipper registered his name in an elite club with two legends, Sunil Gavaskar and Virat Kohli. Before Shubman, it was only Gavaskar and Kohli for India in Tests who got 4 tons in a series.

Sunil Gavaskar vs West Indies, 1971:

India won the 5-match Test series against the West Indies 1-0; Sunil Gavaskar was the top run scorer of the series. In 8 innings, the legendary batter bagged a total of 774 runs with an average of 154.80. Gavaskar slammed centuries in Georgetown, Bridgetown, and Port of Spain, respectively. In this series, a 22-year-old Sunil Gavaskar was up against Garry Sobers (Captain), John Shepherd, Uton Dowe, and Jack Noreiga's West Indies, the home team.

India won the 6-match Test series 1-0; the host registered the victory on the 4th game of the series. Sunil Gavaskar again emerged as the top run getter with 732 runs in 9 innings with a batting average of 91.50. Against Alvin Kallicharran's West Indies, he thrashed 4 centuries in the Test series.

Virat Kohli vs Australia (Border-Gavaskar Trophy), 2014:

The first test of the series was originally scheduled on 4 December in Brisbane, but it was postponed because of the death of Phillip Hughes. Instead, Adelaide hosted the first Test from 9 December, and Brisbane hosted the second Test from 17 December. The series also marked the retirement of MS Dhoni from the Test format with immediate effect. Australia won the 4-match series by 2-0. Steve was the best player of the series, but Virat Kohli offered great competition. Kohli scored 692 runs in the series in 8 innings with an average of 86.50.

Shubman Gill vs England, 2025:

Shubman Gill got the Test captaincy after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat and found himself at new heights in his career. Under pressure, he went on to score one century after another for his team. By the 4th of the 5-match series, the batter had bagged four centuries under his belt.
