Top 3 major records Rohit Sharma can break in the IND vs WI 2026 ODI series

Rohit Sharma is set to return to action for the Indian side during the three-match ODI series against West Indies, beginning on September 27 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. On his last innings of the 50-over format, the right-handed celebrated a fine century at Lord’s in London to shut down the criticisms.  

Having retired from the T20Is and Tests, Rohit’s only focus remains on the ODIs ahead of the 2027 World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia. He has managed 1613 runs in 35 innings of the 50-over format at an average of 57.61 and a strike rate of 91.86 with the help of three centuries and 12 fifties at the best score of 162 runs.

The Nagpur-born will look to continue the strong record against the Caribbean side in the series. The second clash will be on September 30 at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati while the third encounter will be on October 03 at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.

Rohit, who didn’t start the last home season well with the bat in the 50-over format, aims to grow with the bat and break a few major records during the series against the West Indies. Here are the three records-

#3 Oldest Indian to score an ODI century at home-

At the age of 39 years, Rohit can become the oldest player from the blue brigade to celebrate a fine century in the ODIs. The current record belongs to Sunil Gavaskar, the former captain, who notched up a century at 38 years and 113 days of age against New Zealand at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur in 1987. He made an unbeaten knock of 103 runs.

At the age of 39 years and 80 days, Rohit already broke the record by becoming the oldest Indian batter to register an ODI century overall. He got the record with the ton against England at Lord’s, going past Sachin Tendulkar, who held the record previously with a century against Bangladesh in 2012 at 38 years and 327 days of age.

#2 Third Indian batter to cross the 12000-run mark in ODIs

Rohit is among the prolific run-getters for the Indian side in the ODIs. In the 280 innings, the Nagpur-born has smashed 11895 runs at an average of 48.095 and a blistering strike rate of 93.05, with the help pf 34 centuries and 62 half-centuries at the best score of 264 runs, which came against Sri Lanka in 2014 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

He will need 105 runs to become the third player in the ODIs to cross the 12000-run mark for the Indian side. The top place belongs to Sachin Tendulkar, who made 18426 runs in 452 innings at an average of 44.83, and Virat Kohli, who has bagged 14941 runs in 302 innings at an average of 58.59 with 54 centuries and 79 fifties at the best score of 183 runs against Pakistan.

#1 Smashing 100 sixes against single opponent in the international cricket most times-

Rohit is renowned for his six-hitting ability and has slammed 88 over boundaries against the West Indies in the 65 matches so far across the three formats of the game. He is one of the only two batters who has nailed 100 or more sixes in the international cricket against a single opponent across all formats.

He achieved the feat against Australia, having nailed 138 over boundaries in 87 games. The former legendary batter, Chris Gayle, is the only batter with the milestone, hitting 130 sixes against England in 70 matches. If Rohit smashed 12 more sixes in this series, he will becoming the only batter to reach the feat twice.
