Hobart Hurricanes and Brisbane Heat take each other on in Match 54, the penultimate group stage game, of the 2022-23 Big Bash League. The Hurricanes come into this match in seventh place and must win to give themselves hope of progressing to the next stage. Heat have already guaranteed their place in the play-offs. Only one week ago, the Hurricanes were well placed and looked likely to qualify for the play-offs but it now all comes down to this game and they are under pressure to beat a strong Brisbane Heat team. Brisbane Heat are on a winning run although all of their wins have been by narrow margins. A slip in standards with either bat or ball could see them lose this game in Tasmania.

Although Sydney Thunder have had some real lows across this tournament, they have also hit some highs with individual performances. Melbourne Stars, on the other hand, have had precious little to cheer from start to finish. Playing in front of their home fans to end their tournament, we expect Melbourne Stars to put in one of their better performances of the season. For Sydney Thunder, they will know exactly what is required before the game starts, and that clarity of mission may well suit them. Thunder will be looking to David Warner and Oliver Davies to score some big runs but both are capable against this attack. Our prediction is for a Sydney Thunder victory. Considering the team combination, Hobart Hurricanes is expected to win this match.
