A convincing win for India, wrapping up the chase with 11.2 overs to spare. England’s decision to bat first backfired, as conditions under lights were much better for batting.
Despite a strong start, England collapsed after Harshit Rana’s comeback spell, where he turned things around after conceding 26 runs in one over. Jadeja’s three-wicket haul further dented England, and despite some resistance from Buttler and Bethell, the total wasn’t enough.
India lost both openers early, but Gill’s composed innings and Shreyas Iyer’s counterattacking fifty ensured an easy chase. A dominant performance to take a 1-0 lead in the series!

Philip Salt is run out after a terrible mix-up with Ben Duckett. After completing two runs, Salt pushed for a third, but Duckett remained at the non-striker’s end.
Salt had played a brilliant cut shot off a short-of-length delivery, threading it past backward point. Shreyas Iyer chased it down just before the boundary and sent in a sharp throw. With Duckett hesitant, Salt was already halfway down the pitch, making it an easy dismissal. KL Rahul collected the throw cleanly to complete the run-out. Rohit Sharma (India Captain): "I would have bowled first. We wanted to bowl today, but it doesn't matter what happens at the toss. We need to perform with whatever we are given. Now, we will start with the ball, so we want to be aggressive early on and then see how things go from there.
We had a good break, which was nice. It gave us time to reflect on the past. Now, we’re focused on this series, which offers great opportunities. We want to play our best cricket.
We haven’t played much in this format since the World Cup, so we aim to do well in all three areas and be prepared for the Champions Trophy.
Jaiswal and Harshit are both making their debuts today. Unfortunately, Virat won’t play because of a knee issue in his right leg, which happened last night.
Our team includes 5 batters, 3 all-rounders, 1 spinner, and 2 seamers.
Feb 6, 2025, 1:20 pm IST
Jos Buttler (England Captain): "We are going to bat first today. The dressing room atmosphere is great, and it's fantastic to have Joe Root back in the team. The morale is good—we had our moments in the last game but didn’t play well for long enough. Baz is ensuring the players are in a good space.
It's a change of format, and we are looking forward to the game. Playing against a top side like India in these conditions will be a tough test ahead of the Champions Trophy. We are going with three seamers today."
