India is in a commanding position heading into the final day of the second Test against England at Edgbaston, with just seven English wickets standing between them and a series-leveling victory. After declaring their second innings at 427/6, India set England a massive target of 608. The hosts finished Day 4 on 72/3, still 536 runs behind—a feat never attained in Test history.

The match has seen Indian captain Shubman Gill deliver a record-breaking performance, becoming only the second Indian, following Sunil Gavaskar, to have scored a double hundred and a hundred in the same Test.
Gill’s scores of 269 and 161 not only put India in a dominant position but also firmly placed him in the company of legends. With the ball, India made early inroads on Day 4, dismissing three English batters and putting themselves in sight of a famous away win.

The last day may, however, be affected by the weather. There is rain predicted in the morning, with the UK Met Office and BBC Weather predicting a 90% possibility of showers at 9 AM. The prospects fall to about 65% by 10 AM and come down further below 50% later in the day.
By 2 PM, the skies are expected to clear, giving India a strong window of opportunity in the afternoon and evening.

Weather Key, But India Hold All the Cards

Despite the forecast of a wet morning, conditions such as cloud cover, cool temperatures, and brisk winds are expected to assist India's bowlers throughout the day. With the second new ball 64 overs away, India will look to strike early with the old ball and keep the pressure on. If they manage to maintain discipline and intensity, a win looks well within reach.

Currently, India has a 75–85% likelihood of winning the Test, with the draw being the 15–25% certainty, largely because of possible rain time lost. An England win is virtually ruled out. A victory for India would level the five-match series at 1–1, setting up an exciting remainder of the tour. For now, all eyes are on the weather—and India’s bowlers—as the final day promises a gripping finish.
