Extending his brilliant form in red-ball cricket, Shai Hope has scored his fourth Test hundred. The middle-order batter reached the milestone on Day 4 of the opening Test against New Zealand in Christchurch. He reached his century in just 139 balls and helped his team recover after early wickets in their second innings. This is also his second consecutive Test hundred of the year.

This sparkling century from Shai Hope has now moved him to the second spot on the list of most international runs in 2025. In this journey, he has even surpassed legends like Joe Root.

5. Joe Root

The former England skipper is in sensational form in 2025. On the opening day of the ongoing second Ashes Test 2025–26, Joe Root ended his century drought in Australia and scored his first-ever Test hundred on Australian soil, making 138* off 206 balls. He also equalled England legend Ian Botham’s record at the Gabba.

India Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill may have to wait a few months before he can return to action. He has a neck injury that is said to be more serious than it looked at first. Gill seemed to worsen the injury while batting on Day 2 of the first Test between India and South Africa in Kolkata. He faced only three balls before he was retired hurt. After that, he was taken on a stretcher to a local hospital. He stayed there for one day for observation and was then discharged.

Now, several reports say that Gill may miss the rest of 2025 because he has a nerve injury. He has been given an injection to help reduce the symptoms.

The 26-year-old left the Kolkata hospital wearing a neck brace. He still travelled to Guwahati with the India Test squad for the second match that started on Saturday morning. However, he was not selected in the playing XI, as he was ruled out on the eve of the match.

Gill flew to Mumbai to meet spinal injury specialist Dr. Abhay Nene. His medical report has been sent to BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar.

Gill Has a Nerve Injury

According to a report in The Times of India, Gill has a nerve injury. The team management does not want to rush his return because the T20 World Cup will be held in February–March next year. It is possible that Gill will not play again in 2025. He may return for the New Zealand series starting on January 11 next year.

When Will Gill Start Rehab?

Before starting rehab, Gill must take complete rest. It is unlikely he will be available for the five-match T20I series against South Africa. India will also play South Africa in three ODIs from November 30 after the Test series ends.

A BCCI source told PTI that “Gill has been given an injection to reduce his symptoms and will need a period of rest before starting rehab, training, and skill work. There is also a chance he may miss the T20I series.”

Another injury threat for Indian cricket. After team India skipper Shubman Gill's neck injury, another star player suffered an injury and was forced to leave the field during the India A vs. South Africa A (IND A vs. SA A) team match. 

India-A vs South Africa- A 3rd unofficial one-day is underway at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot. During the match, while the India A team was the bowling side, Ishan Kishan suffered an injury. He was doing the wicketkeeping job then. After sustaining the injury, he had left the keeping gloves and the field as well. In place of Ishan Kishan, Prabhsimran Singh took over the keeping gloves. 

Ishan Kishan is a key player of the current India A team for the unofficial series against the South Africa A team. Multiple injury threats for Indian cricket

Ishan Kishan's injury caused more worry among Indian cricket fans because of the injury of Shubman Gill. The Test and ODI team captain of India has been recovering from a neck injury he sustained during the India vs South Africa Test at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. BCCI on Wednesday issued a major update on Gill, ahead of the India vs South Africa 2nd Test, which is scheduled to be played at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. 

"Team India captain Shubman Gill suffered a neck injury on Day 2 of the Kolkata Test against South Africa and was taken to the hospital for examination after the end of the day's play. He was kept under observation and discharged the next day. Shubman has been responding well to the medical treatment provided and will travel to Guwahati with the team on 19th November, 2025. He will continue to be monitored by the BCCI medical team, and a decision on his participation in the 2nd Test will be taken accordingly," BCCI informed. 

Team India won the second and final Test against West Indies by seven wickets at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, October 14. With this win, the Shubman Gill-led team completed a 2-0 whitewash over the visitors.

India chased down the 121-run target on Day 5. Earlier, Gill won the toss and chose to bat first. The team declared their innings at 518/5. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal played brilliantly, scoring 175 runs from 258 balls.

Captain Shubman Gill also hit a fine century, remaining not out on 129 from 196 balls. Left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican took three wickets for the West Indies. Kuldeep Yadav Shines with the Ball

Kuldeep Yadav was the best bowler for India, taking a brilliant five-wicket haul. The West Indies were asked to bat again as India enforced the follow-on.

The visiting team fought back well. John Campbell scored 115 runs from 199 balls, and Shai Hope made 103 from 214 balls. Justin Greaves remained not out on 50 and built an important 79-run partnership for the last wicket with Jayden Seales.

West Indies were all out for 390 on Day 4. Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah picked up three wickets each in the second innings. Shubman Gill’s team chased down the target easily.

2. Sai Sudharsan’s Stunning Catch at Short-Leg

West Indies opener John Campbell was dismissed for 10 runs in the first innings because of a brilliant catch by Sai Sudharsan at short-leg.

In the eighth over, Campbell tried to sweep a ball from Ravindra Jadeja. He made good contact, but the ball went straight to Sudharsan, who caught it while trying to duck.

The ball stuck to his hands, and he took the catch cleanly. Sudharsan left the field afterward for medical attention.

3. Shubman Gill’s Follow-On Decision Divides Fans

Some fans were not happy with Shubman Gill’s decision to enforce the follow-on after West Indies were bowled out for 248. India had a lead of 270 runs.  Supporters felt the Indian bowlers had already bowled 81.5 overs and should have been given rest while India batted again. It was also the first time in 10 years that India enforced the follow-on with a lead of less than 300.
