Abhishek Sharma was the top performer for India with the bat as India won by six wickets against Pakistan in their Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match on Sunday. The left-handed opener was in great form, scoring 74 runs off just 39 balls, including 6 fours and 5 sixes.

The Punjab batter’s intent was clear from the very first ball when he hit Shaheen Afridi for a six over fine-leg. After that, there was no stopping him. Following the win, Abhishek’s mother, Manju Sharma, expressed her happiness at his brilliant performance and also took a playful dig at the Pakistan pacer.

"Abhishek ne jo pahli ball par chakka mara aur kisko mara, wo sab jante hai. Wo mujhe sabse pasand aaya aur mujhe babut maza aaya, ("Everyone knows that Abhishek hit a six on the very first ball and who he hit it against. That’s what I liked the most, and I really enjoyed it.")" she said in a video posted by journalist Vimal Kumar.

Abhishek Sharma’s Sister Praises Him

Abhishek’s sister, Komal Sharma, was very happy with his performance. She could not hide her excitement after he received the Player of the Match award.

"I always wanted to watch an India vs Pakistan match, and today we came—and he did so well. He’s the Man of the Match. You can see on our faces, we’re very excited and happy. We’re very proud of him. I truly believe the sky is the limit for him, and he will show everyone the kind of player and talent he has. The century will come very soon, and he has already made us proud. We’re just waiting for that hundred in this tournament," she said.

Abhishek’s Response After the Match

There were several moments when Abhishek exchanged words with the Pakistan pacers, most notably with Haris Rauf. After the match, Abhishek said the bowlers were coming at him for no reason, and it motivated him even more.

"Today was simple. They were coming at us without reason, and I did not like it. That’s why I went after them. I wanted to deliver for the team. (On his stand with Shubman Gill) We have been playing since school, we enjoy each other’s company, and today was the day. The way he was giving it back, I really enjoyed it. When someone plays like this, it’s because the team supports me. I practice hard, and if it’s my day, I will win it for my team," he said at the post-match presentation.
