GSL 2025: Hobart Hurricanes XI announce their squad for upcoming season
Hobart Hurricanes XI name a strong, globally experienced squad for the 2025 GSL, targeting silverware on Caribbean turf.

The Hobart Hurricanes XI have officially announced their squad for the anticipated 2025 ExxonMobil Guyana Global Super League (GSL), which will run from July 10-18 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence. The Hurricanes are the defending Big Bash League champions and will enter GSL with momentum and expectations to chase down the GSL trophy and US$1 million in prize money.
With a core of T20 experts, the Hurricanes have put together a group of players who could compete with the best in the Caribbean. Their experience in international T20 leagues makes them one of the most balanced and well-rounded groups going into the week-long tournament in Guyana.
Leading the batting rankings is experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Ben McDermott. With explosive opening and regular runs, McDermott provides international experience from his spells in Australia, England, South Africa, Pakistan, and Bangladesh, in addition to 25 T20I games for Australia. His leadership as an opener will be crucial for the Hurricanes' season.
Key Players and Squad Depth
The bowling department boasts an intimidating pace combination in Jackson Bird, Billy Stanlake, and homeboy Odean Smith. Smith's experience with the Providence conditions, given that he played for the Guyana Amazon Warriors from 2019 through 2023, provides a tactical advantage. Their pace attack is likely to probe opposition batsmen on warm Caribbean surfaces.
The Hurricanes XI also boasts a strong spin unit. Leg-spinning all-rounder Nikhil Chaudhary is joined by experienced internationals Mohammad Nabi and Mohammad Nawaz. All three play value either batting or bowling, and Hobart's spin resources guarantee control and match-winning pace in the middle overs.
The Hobart Hurricanes XI 2025 GSL team consists of:
Ben McDermott, Billy Stanlake, Nikhil Chaudhary, Jackson Bird, Tim Ward, Jake Doran, Raf MacMillan, Marcus Bean, Mac Wright, Sahibzada Farhan, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Nabi, and Odean Smith.
