On September 11, 2023, Team India claimed their biggest ODI win over archrival Pakistan in Colombo. India won the match by a whopping 228 runs. Virat Kohli and KL Rahul scored hundreds each, and Kuldeep Yadav claimed 5 wickets. Pakistan's batting was cut short due to injuries of Naseem Shah and Haris Rauf.
A couple of years ago, when India faced Pakistan in a 'Super Four' clash, it turned into a record-breaking event. Losing only 2 wickets, India registered 356 runs in 50 overs, batting first. Openers Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubman Gill (58) built a solid foundation by scoring half centuries, followed by tons from Kohli and Rahul. Kohli was named as the best player of the match for his unbeaten 122-run innings against 94 runs, while Rahul remained not out for 111 off 106.
Pakistan's star-studded bowling lineup proved mostly ineffective throughout the match. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Shadab Khan got a wicket each, but the rest of their bowling performance proved their caliber very little in the match against the in-form Men in Blue. Iftikhar Ahmed proved to be the most expensive bowler of the night. He leaked 52 runs in 5.4 overs, without taking any wicket.
Record breaking win for India against Pakistan
On the same track, when Pakistan went to chase the massive target of 357 runs in the second innings, it caused a devastating affair for them. None of their batters were able to cross the individual 30-run mark; three batters managed to cross the 20-run mark. Fakhar Zaman, with 27 runs, was the highest scorer for Team Pakistan. Pakistan managed to accumulate only 128 runs in 32 overs. Using the track properly, Kuldeep bagged 5 scalps.
The player of the match, Virat Kohli, said about his 77th international century, "I always prepared my game in a way I can help the team. Today was a classic example of you don't get off to a good start... KL started better; I was trying to bring him on strike and playing second fiddle."
