IPL 2026: Ranking All 10 Teams Based on Squad Strength
Discover the strongest squads for the upcoming IPL 2026. Explore our detailed IPL 2026 Team Rankings for every squad strength, from the top batting performer to the most clinical bowlers.

A high-stakes transfer window and a pivotal mini-auction in Abu Dhabi have paved the way for the 19th season of the Indian Premier League, reshaping the league's hierarchy completely. As the new season arrives, our detailed IPL 2026 Team Rankings show how franchises have reorganised their rosters to achieve the perfect balance among veteran players and the energetic form of T20's global stars. This pre-season power ranking assesses all ten teams based on their current roster depth, recent tactical purchases, and the most critical balance of power-hitting units and clinical bowling attacks.
1. Mumbai Indians (MI)

The Mumbai Indians reclaim first place by combining a legendary base with strong recent performance. The retention of Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah creates a world-class spine. Trent Boult's return and Shardul Thakur's trade-in have strengthened the team's pace attack. Ryan Rickelton and Sherfane Rutherford, top run scorers in the SA20 2026, provide explosive depth to the middle order. The addition of Allah Ghazanfar and Mayank Markande offers enough variety to dominate on most surfaces, though their spin remains a minor concern.
2) Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)

The Knight Riders used a bold auction strategy, securing Cameron Green for a record ₹25.20 crore and Matheesha Pathirana for ₹18 crore. Cameron Green and Sunil Narine are among their most versatile all-rounders, making them a formidable team. With Rinku Singh as a finisher and Finn Allen's record-breaking BBL season of 38 sixes, their batting potential is immense. With Harshit Rana's injury concerns, the team relies on Matheesha Pathirana and Blessing Muzarabani to maintain their fitness throughout the season.
3. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)

As reigning champions, RCB prioritised consistency, keeping 17 players from their championship-winning squad. Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, and Rajat Patidar continue to lead the top order, while Venkatesh Iyer's arrival for ₹7 crore provides stability in the middle order. The bowling lineup is more equal than in past years, with Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar providing veteran control. Despite acquiring Nuwan Thushara, the Chinnaswamy team's history of death bowling remains a source of concern.

4. Chennai Super Kings (CSK)

CSK climbs into the Top 4 after making the "Trade Out of the Decade" to acquire Sanju Samson. Samson, after being fresh off a Player of the Tournament effort in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, resolves their middle-order crisis. CSK's batting has been rejuvenated thanks to Ruturaj Gaikwad and the explosive Dewald Brevis, and not to forget MS Dhoni as a finisher for CSK. Their bowling is still "Chepauk-perfect" in Noor Ahmad, Rahul Chahar, and Akeal Hosein. While their pace squad is quite young, their spin power and Ruturaj's commanding presence make them true title contenders once more.
5. Rajasthan Royals (RR)

The Rajasthan Royals have made a strategic shift, trading the skipper Sanju Samson, for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. This move gives them the league's most balanced all-rounder core. Yashasvi Jaiswal's rapid rise and Vaibhav Suryavanshi's consistent form have resulted in explosive batting performances. Sandeep Sharma, Jofra Archer, and Kwena Maphaka strengthen the team's bowling attack, making it both fast and deceptive. Their main weakness is the absence of a senior wicketkeeper-captain after Sanju Samson's departure, which puts a lot of pressure on Dhruv Jurel.
6. Punjab Kings(PBKS)

Shreyas Iyer has built a high-intensity T20 cricket squad for the Punjab Kings in 2026. The team boasts a strong pace attack with Arshdeep Singh, Lockie Ferguson, and Marco Jansen. Marcus Stoinis and Azmatullah Omarzai are capable all-rounders who can impact games. However, their constant weakness is their middle-order consistency. Despite Shashank Singh's impressive performance, the team struggles to maintain composure during intense run chases, resulting in a second-place finish in the previous 2025 season.
7. Delhi Capitals(DC)

The Delhi Capitals have prioritised rebuilding a versatile squad with various "Impact Player" choices. The retention of Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav makes them the league's strongest spin duo. The addition of Nitish Rana and Pathum Nissanka, who recently scored a century in the T20I World Cup, adds stability to the top order. The management faces a challenge in bringing in a reliable fourth overseas option, such as David Miller, given the importance of players like Mitchell Starc and Tristan Stubbs.
8. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)

Sunrisers Hyderabad maintains an aggressive batting philosophy. The IPL's opening pair, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma (the top-ranked T20I batter in 2025), are the most destructive. Heinrich Klaasen supports their batting, which can reach 250+ scores any day. However, their bowling division appears lopsided. After trading Mohammed Shami, they rely heavily on Pat Cummins and Harshal Patel. Their spin attack is the weakest among the top teams, which could be fatal on slower surfaces like Chepauk or Lucknow.
9. Lucknow Super Giants(LSG)

LSG have plenty of individual superstars but struggles with squad balance. The middle order of Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, and Aiden Markram is formidable. Mohammed Shami's trade adds valuable experience to the team, which already has Mayank Yadav as a speedster. Their main weakness is a "top-heavy" hitting lineup that dwindles sharply. If the top three fail to score, the lower-middle order, which is primarily made up of uncapped Indian players, may struggle. Mohammed Shami and Anrich Nortje's injury history poses a risk to their primary bowling attack.
10. Gujarat Titans(GT)

Gujarat Titans are currently at the bottom of the rankings, owing to believing it to be a matter of progress in their middle order. While Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, and Rashid Khan are exceptional individual players, the rest of the team lacks "finishing" experience. The return of Jos Buttler and Glenn Phillips is beneficial, but their pace attack, beyond Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, lacks depth. Their main weakness is their inability to find a consistent domestic finisher to take over the impact of previous seasons, leaving them very dependent on Rashid Khan's cameo appearances with the bat as a finisher.
