The fifth round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 saw some notable bowling performances from the pacers and the spinners as the batters struggled a little bit on the slow surfaces around the country. As of now, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Delhi find themselves at the top of the points table.

On the other hand, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Mumbai, and Haryana are in the second position and will try to get their best to get themselves among the top two of the points table in the last 27 rounds of the group stage of the tournament.

1.   Arshdeep Singh (Punjab)

India has been in search of a left-arm seamer in the ODI format for a long time since the retirement of Zaheer Khan. Their wish might get fulfilled as Arshdeep Singh continues to earn success with the ball in finding swing. Ahead of the ODI series against New Zealand, the left-arm fast bowler featured for Punjab against Sikkim and ended with magical figures of 5/34 in his 10 overs.

Later in the innings, their opener, Prabhsimran Singh, captaining the Punjab side, smashed a fine knock of 53 runs in just 26 balls with the help of four boundaries and five sixes to complete the chase in just 6.2 overs.

Brief Scores: Punjab 81/0 (Prabhsimran Singh 53*) beat Sikkim 75 (Palzor Tamang 13, Arshdeep Singh 5/34) by 10 wickets.

2.   Yash Thakur (Vidarbha)

Yash Thakur, who has featured for the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League, wanted to be a wicket keeper in his childhood until he bowled some fast bowling in the net and his coach asked him to become a pacer. Unlike most of the pacers, he operates in the middle overs and uses the old ball with pace to create issues for the batters.

During the game against Baroda, Thakur ended with four vital wickets in his 10-over spell for 64 runs, which included Hardik Pandya and Jitesh Sharma- two national players. Thanks to some magical batting from their top three, we have completed the chase by 9 wickets to win the contest.

Brief Scores: Vidarbha 296/1 (Aman Mokhade 150*, Dhruv Shorey 65, Mahesh Pithiya 1/40) beat Baroda 293/9 (Hardik Pandya 133, Yash Thakur 4/64) by nine wickets.

3.   Harshit Rana (Delhi)

Harshit Rana has also returned to the Delhi side for the Vijay Hazare Trophy game against Services at the BCCI Center of Excellence ground 2 in Bengaluru, as he prepares himself for the upcoming home white-ball series against New Zealand a week later. Rana bowled with pace and a consistent line and length to create trouble for the Services' batters.

The Delhi pacer opening the bowling with Ishan Sharma ended with 4 wickets for 47 runs in his ten-over spell, while the farmer picked up one wicket in his 6-over spell, conceding 16 runs. Delhi completed the chase in less than 20 overs by eight wickets in hand.

Brief Scores: Delhi 182/2 (Priyansh Arya 72*, Rishabh Pant 67*) beat Services 178 (Vikas Hathwala 26, Harshit Rana 4/47, Prince Yadav 3/28) by eight-wickets.

4.   Prince Yadav (Delhi)

Prince Yadav has been on the radar of the Indian selectors for a long time, as, along with Harshit Rana, he also impressed with the ball in his three wickets against the Services in Bengaluru for 28 runs at an economy rate of 3.60. His wickets were included Nakul Sharma and Vikas Hathwala of the middle order.

Later in the second innings, Delhi completed the chase by eight wickets inside 20 overs with Priyansh Adia remaining unbeaten on 72 runs while Rishabh Pant, leading the side, cracked a fine knock of 67 runs in just 37 balls.

5.   Ashok Sharma (Rajasthan)

Ashok Sharma, who was excellent with the ball in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, using his pace and finishing as the joint-leading wicket taker of the tournament, continued the same success in the fifth round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Tamil Nadu at the Narendra Modi Stadium B ground in Ahmedabad.

To restrict Tamil Nadu before 225 in the second innings, Rajasthan needed some inspiring bowling, and Ashok provided them with the same with his spell of 5/58 in his ten overs, including a maiden as he claimed the vital wickets of Narayan Jagadeeshan and Baba Aparajith.

Brief Scores: Rajasthan 225 (Deepak Hooda 70, Varun Chakravarthy 4/25) beat Tamil Nadu 215 (Narayan Jagaeeshan 71, Ashok Sharma 5/58) by 10 runs.
