The former Australian opening batter, David Warner, has celebrated his second Big Bash League (BBL) century after 5131 days against the Hobart Hurricanes, playing for the Sydney Thunder, at the Sydney Showground Stadium. The left-handed opening batter remained unbeaten on 130 in just 65 deliveries at a strike rate of 200 while opening the batting.

David Warner, whose career is now associated with commentary as he has been doing in the Ashes 2025/26 series between Australia and England, has marked a significant comeback with the bat after a string of low scores in this event. It was not a great start for the Thunder, who lost their first wicket on the very first ball of the innings.

It was followed by a second ball wicket of Sam Konstas as they found themselves none for 2 in the 2nd ball of the first innings before Warner shouldered the responsibility with his knock of 11 boundaries and nine sixes. However, the middle order contributed as expected, as they could make themselves 205 for four in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Hobart Hurricanes completed the chase with 13 balls to spare by six wickets as their opening batter, Tim Ward, nailed a fine knock of 90 runs in just 49 balls at a strike rate of over 180, shouldering boundaries and three sixes. He was well supported by Mitchell Owen in the opening position.

Thanks to the massive victory, Hobart Hurricanes rise to the top position of the points table with five victories in seven games at a net run rate of 0.187, while Thunder remain at the bottom with just one win in six clashes.

Brief Scores: Hobart Hurricanes 207/4 (Tim Ward 90, Mitchell Owen 45, Daniel Sams 3/36) beat Sydney Thunder 205/4 (David Warner 130*, Will Prestwidge 2/19) by six wickets.
