BBL 2026/27 schedule: Fixtures, timings & venues

The 2026/27 season of the Big Bash League (BBL) will begin on Dec 12 with the opening blockbuster game between Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers taking place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. There will be a two-day break before the event commences on December 15 in Australia.

The Australia leg of the BBL 2026/27 will start between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers at the Gabba in Brisbane, with the final being scheduled to happen on January 26.

BBL 2026/27 opener: Melbourne Renegades vs Perth Scorchers in Chennai on December 12

The opening game of the BBL 2026/27 will run directly after the fourth day’s play in the opening Test against New Zealand at the Perth Stadium. However, there is a risk of the timing overlapping if the Test keeps happening during the fixture.

“There's certainly been interest from time to time at state government level and at venue level, and with some of our clubs to imagine what that could look like bringing an IPL game out here.” The BBL executive general manager, Alistair Dobson, expressed.

“As you can imagine, taking any sporting event overseas is a challenge. Taking a cricket game is complex, but we're going into a market that we know loves the game and puts on big cricket events every day of the week.” He added.

The Boxing Day will see the double-header in the BBL. After that, the Sixers will face the Brisbane Heat, while the Scorchers will be taking on the Stars in the evening. In the same process, there will be a double-header in the evening.

The BBL 2026/27 event will be streamed in India through JioHotstar and telecast on the Star Sports channels. The opening game will be a historic clash in Chennai, with the franchise event taking place overseas without any reason like COVID or the elections.
