3 players who deserved a spot but still missed out on India's ODI squad for England series ft. Yashasvi Jaiswal
India have announced ODI squad for England series, but 3 deserving players including Yashasvi Jaiswal missed out. Here is the complete list.

India have announced their ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against England, and there were a few notable calls from the BCCI selectors. While the return of senior players like Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Axar Patel grabbed the headlines, some players who had a strong case for selection were left out of the squad.
The series against England will be India’s next assignment in the 50-over format after their 3-0 ODI series win over Afghanistan. With matches scheduled for July 14, 17, and 20 in England, the selectors have largely gone with an experienced group for what is expected to be a challenging tour in English conditions.
However, not every omission came as a complete surprise. Hardik Pandya is still recovering from injury and is expected to return later for the Sri Lanka tour, while youngsters like Prince Yadav and Harsh Dubey, who made their debuts against Afghanistan, have also been left out. Even so, there are a few players who did enough to stay in the conversation but still failed to find a place in the squad.
Yashasvi Jaiswal is one of the names that stands out among those unlucky to miss out. Along with him, a couple of other players can also count themselves unfortunate after being ignored despite recent performances or their potential value in English conditions. Here’s a look at three players who deserved a spot but were left out of India’s ODI squad for the England series.
Three players who missed out on the India ODI squad:
3. Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is one of the biggest names missing from India’s ODI squad for the England series. The experienced all-rounder has been a key player for India in the format for many years and has often delivered in pressure situations. Whether with the bat, the ball, or in the field, Jadeja has repeatedly shown that he can make an impact when the team needs him the most.
The selectors have once again decided to leave him out, even though he remains an important ODI player for India. Jadeja has retired from T20Is, but he is still active in ODIs and Tests. He was also not part of the ODI series against Afghanistan, and now his absence from the England tour has raised more questions. Reports suggest that workload management and the team’s desire to test fresh faces played a role in the decision.
Jadeja featured for the Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2026 and delivered a decent season before suffering from tennis elbow and a minor knee niggle towards the end of the tournament. However, he has recovered from those issues. More importantly, his ODI numbers still make a strong case for selection. Jadeja last played an ODI against New Zealand in January 2026, and since the start of 2025, he has scored runs at an average of 53.00 while also taking 12 wickets for India.
That is why his continued absence feels a little harsh. Jadeja may not be at his absolute peak, but he still offers balance, experience, and the ability to change games in crucial moments. If he keeps getting ignored despite being available, it could slowly push him out of India’s ODI plans altogether. For a player who has given so much to Indian cricket, that would be a disappointing way to fade out of the format.
2. Mohammed Siraj

In the second place, we have Mohammed Siraj, who is once again missing from India’s ODI squad for the England series. The fast bowler has been one of India’s most reliable pace options in recent years and has often taken the responsibility of leading the attack when senior bowlers were unavailable. His effort, energy, and consistency have made him a key part of India’s bowling unit.
Siraj has carried a heavy workload for India across formats in the past few seasons. With Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami missing several matches due to injuries and workload management, Siraj has often bowled long spells and handled pressure situations without complaint. Because of this, the team management has started managing his workload more carefully.

He recently played in a one-off Test against Afghanistan and was also included in the squad for the T20Is against Ireland and England. However, he was later released from the T20I squad to manage his workload. Siraj also played a full IPL 2026 season for the Gujarat Titans, where he remained an important bowler for the team.
Reports suggest that his absence from the ODI squad is not due to form but mainly because of workload management. The selectors want to keep him fresh for bigger assignments ahead. While this decision may help him in the long run, India will still miss his presence in the pace attack for the England series.
1. Yashasvi Jaiswal

In the first place, we have Yashasvi Jaiswal, and his omission from India’s ODI squad for the England series has surprised many fans. The young left-hander has already made a strong mark in international cricket, especially in Tests, where he has shown great maturity and consistency. However, in the ODI setup, he is still trying to find a regular place in a highly competitive batting line-up.
Jaiswal got his chance when Virat Kohli missed the ODI series against Afghanistan. He stepped in confidently and showed his ability with a strong performance. One of his best moments came when he scored a brilliant century in Chennai during the third ODI, where he played with aggression and control, proving that he can perform under pressure at the international level.
Despite those performances, Jaiswal has once again missed out on selection for the England ODI series. This time, the decision appears to be more about team balance and senior players returning rather than his form. With established names back in the squad, there is very little space in the top order.
At the moment, India’s opening positions are occupied by Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill, which leaves no clear opportunity for Jaiswal in his preferred role. Although he has shown strong potential and has already scored two ODI centuries in a short career, the intense competition in the top order has pushed him out of the squad for now. Still, his performances suggest he remains very much in the selectors’ long-term plans.
