India’s new teenage super star, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, broke down in emotion after he saw his Indian jersey in his room, just moments before leaving for Ireland to be part of the two-match T20I series. Fresh from his heroics to win the Tri Nation Series 2026 in Sri Lanka, the left-handed batter would be part of the senior side for the very first time. 

Sooryavanshi, even at an age of just 15, has taken on some of the premier bowlers around the globe, impressing in the opening shot during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, with his fearless batting performances. 

The 15-year-old's reaction has gone viral days before his expected senior India debut vs Ireland on June 26

Sooryavanshi struggled to put his emotions into words after seeing his name on the back of the Indian jersey for the first time, as he described it as the moment a childhood dream becoming reality.

“It's difficult to express in words. The reason I first picked up a bat and started practicing at a cricket ground was to one day wear the India jersey, and that dream has come true today. It feels unreal.” Sooryavanshi expressed in a video posted by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

“I simply cannot explain this feeling in words. It feels like a dream. The moment I saw the jersey; I was so happy. I couldn't stop smiling. Sometimes, things happen in your life that you never even imagine, and when they do, you are unable to react. That was exactly my reaction.” The left-handed batter addressed.

The India call-up has been a remarkable journey for the left-handed batter, whose performances over the past have turned him into one of the most renowned players in the country.

From a Bihar academy to wearing the Indian jersey — Sooryavanshi's journey comes full circle

The teenager has been named in India’s squad for the seven T20Is in the United Kingdom, comprising two matches against Ireland and a five-match series against England. The Ireland series begins on June 26 in Belfast before the focus moves to the England series from July 01. The teenager smashed a 94 runs off just 29 balls and broke the List A record for the fastest fifty, reaching the milestone in just 11 balls.

Sooryavanshi, at the start of the year, hammered 175 runs off 80 balls against England in the U-19 World Cup final, striking 15 fours and as many sixes to lift the trophy. In the IPL 2026, he finished as the leading run-getter with 776 runs in 16 innings at an average of 48.50 and a strike rate of 237.30 with five half-centuries and one century.

Starting from the Bihar academy to wearing the Indian jersey, it has been an emotional yet inspiring story for the youngsters. He will hope to make his debut against Ireland and continue the same dominance in T20Is.
