The left-handed opening batter of the India A side, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, smashed a thrilling knock of 94 runs off just 29 balls during the Tri Series 2026 final against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was in a different mood against Sri Lanka A during the Tri series 2026 final at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla. The left-handed batter has shut down all the critics, if there were any, after a struggling last couple of weeks in the format, followed by the success of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

Sooryavanshi opened his account with two successive boundaries against Mohamed Shiraz before smashing the pacer for three sixes and two boundaries in the second over. By the end of the third over of the innings, he was on 34 runs off just eight balls, and Sri Lanka players were shocked at the usual batting of the kid.

They tried different options in the bowling department, but nothing has worked. With two sixes and a four, the left-handed batter celebrated his half-century off just 11 balls, which became the fastest fifty in List-A cricket.
He continued to slash the bowlers around the park. On the first delivery of the sixth over, he was dropped by Ravindu Fernando, to what could have been a superb catch from the spinner, who actually tried to save himself from an outrageous shot.

The flurry of boundaries and sixes continued for the next few overs. Despite getting beaten with pace and inside edge, the Bihar-born showed his fearless brand of cricket and smashed a few more boundaries.
He had the chance to celebrate the joint fastest century in List A cricket. But he fell short of the moment and was dismissed for 94 runs in 29 balls at a strike rate of more than 320, with the help of 10 boundaries and eight sixes.

Amidst all the fun from Sooryavanshi’s 94 runs, the eyes were not on Priyansh Arya, who was unbeaten on 35 runs off 24 balls by the end of his partner’s batting. He soon was dismissed for 39 runs off 29 balls at a strike rate of 134.18 with the help of four boundaries and one six.

Sri Lanka perhaps smelled the blood to go through the batting department of the India A side. Still, the experience of Ruturaj Gaikwad and captain Tilak Varma settled the situation as the latter celebrated his fourth half-century of the series.
Gaikwad, meanwhile, was dismissed for 40 runs off 51 balls as India A moved to 288/5 after 41 overs of the innings.
