Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may not have made a big score with the bat in India A's fourth ODI Tri-Series match against Afghanistan A on June 17, but the teenage sensation still grabbed the spotlight with a stunning effort in the field. The 15-year-old produced a breathtaking diving catch to dismiss Afghanistan A batter Khalid Taniwal for 13 runs, leaving fans and commentators in disbelief. Many had questioned Vaibhav's fielding during IPL 2026, but this catch was the perfect response from the youngster.

The moment came in the sixth over of Afghanistan A's innings when Anshul Kamboj induced an outside edge from Taniwal. Vaibhav reacted instantly, diving full stretch to complete a sensational catch and give India A their second breakthrough. His sharp reflexes, athleticism, and determination turned what looked like a certain boundary opportunity into one of the catches of the tournament.

The video of the catch quickly went viral on social media, with fans praising the youngster's incredible effort. Watch the video of Vaibhav's amazing catch here and see for yourself why cricket fans cannot stop talking about this spectacular moment.

The catch that stopped the Internet — 15-year-old Sooryavanshi does the unthinkable in the field

The memorable moment came in the sixth over of Afghanistan A's innings. With Khalid Taniwal looking dangerous at the crease, India A pacer Anshul Kamboj created an opportunity that seemed difficult to convert into a wicket.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi reacted instantly as the ball flew in his direction. At first, it looked as though the youngster had failed to hold on to the catch. However, he showed remarkable awareness and determination, quickly recovering as the ball slipped away from him.

Refusing to give up on the chance, the 15-year-old prodigy chased the ball and launched into a full-length dive to complete a stunning catch. The dismissal ended Taniwal's innings for 13 after the batter had already struck a four and a six. While Kamboj earned the wicket, the spotlight belonged to Sooryavanshi, whose exceptional effort produced one of the standout moments of the match.

Not just a batter anymore — Why Sooryavanshi's athleticism is making India's opponents nervous

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi may not have registered a half-century in the ongoing Tri-Nation Series, but the young star continues to make valuable contributions for India A. In four innings, he has scored 117 runs, with scores of 14, 44, 21, and 38. While his batting has shown promise without producing a big score yet, his stunning catch against Afghanistan A highlighted another important aspect of his game — his athleticism in the field.

The spectacular dismissal of Khalid Taniwal served as a strong response to critics who had questioned Sooryavanshi's fielding abilities during IPL 2026. His quick reflexes, determination, and ability to pull off a difficult catch demonstrated that he can influence matches even when he is not making headlines with the bat.

As for the match, Afghanistan A won the toss and chose to bowl first. India A posted an impressive 319/9 in 50 overs. Sooryavanshi contributed 38 runs from 28 balls, while Priyansh Arya scored 58 off 34 deliveries. Kumar Kushagra and Tilak Varma also made 58 and 59, respectively, helping India A set a challenging target for Afghanistan A.

India A storm into final after clinical all-round performance

India A completed a dominant victory over Afghanistan A to book their place in the final of the Tri-Nation Series. After posting a challenging total of 319/9, the Indian bowlers backed up the batting effort with a disciplined performance, striking at regular intervals and never allowing Afghanistan A to build sustained momentum.

The only notable resistance came through an 87-run partnership between Faisal and Bihar for the fourth wicket. Bihar brought up a well-made half-century, while Faisal fell just four runs short of reaching the milestone. Their stand briefly gave Afghanistan A hope, but once it was broken, the innings quickly unravelled.

Captain Tilak Varma managed his bowling resources impressively, making timely changes that kept the pressure on the opposition. Spinner Nishant Sindhu was the standout performer with the ball and was deservedly named Player of the Match. Afghanistan A were eventually bowled out for 218 in 36.5 overs, handing India A a comprehensive win and a place in the final. Meanwhile, Afghanistan A's qualification hopes now depend on the result of the final group-stage match against Sri Lanka A.
