Coach reveals the daily sacrifice that fuelled a 15-year-old's cricket dream
Following his outstanding performances in IPL 2026, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi earned a place in India's squad for the upcoming tour of Ireland and England. Speaking to the Press Trust of India (PTI), his childhood coach, Manish Ojha, revealed the hard work that helped the teenager reach this stage. According to Ojha, Vaibhav spent nearly six years sharpening his skills, practicing for around eight hours every day and facing close to 100 overs in the nets.
Ojha also highlighted the crucial role played by Vaibhav's mother, Aarti Sooryavanshi, in supporting her son's cricket journey. He recalled the sacrifices she made every day to ensure that Vaibhav and his training partners had everything they needed. "His mother used to get up at 2 am or 2.30 am and would prepare lunch," Ojha said during the interview.
The coach explained that Aarti would prepare large meals before Vaibhav and his father left for Patna at around 5 AM for training sessions. Her efforts went beyond supporting her own son. "Not just for Vaibhav or his father or their driver, but also for a couple of bowlers who used to come with them," Ojha said while praising her generosity and dedication.
According to Ojha, the family regularly carried food for several young net bowlers who did not have strong financial support. "If good bowlers who got tired, forgot to bring their lunch, they would share Vaibhav's food. So 10-15 people used to come regularly," he revealed. The coach's story offers a touching reminder that behind every young star's success, there are often countless unseen sacrifices made by family members.

Recalling Vaibhav's early training days, Ojha revealed that the youngster faced more than 600 deliveries every day after switching from tennis-ball cricket to hard-ball cricket at the age of 10. "We don't count the number of balls he played, but I can give you a minimum estimate that he must have played more than 600 balls. I used to give throwdowns myself for about 200-300 balls. When I got tired, other support staff would help me, and when they got tired, the bowlers from our academy would help them," Ojha said. He added that practice sessions regularly started at 7:30 AM and continued until 4 PM, underlining the intense workload behind Vaibhav's remarkable rise.
