38-Year-Old Mizoram cricketer dies after collapsing on field during local match
A 38-year-old cricketer from Mizoram tragically passed away after collapsing on the field during a local cricket match, raising concerns over player health and on-field medical preparedness.

The Mizoram Ranji Trophy cricketer K Lalremruata passed away on Thursday, dying after collapsing on the field while playing in a local cricket match. K Lalremruata, age 38, was walking back to the pavilion after finishing his batting and experienced chest pain. He was pronounced dead at the scene despite efforts to revive him by those in attendance at the match. This was a shock to the local cricket community; players and officials were left reeling from the sudden loss of a long-time player who represented Mizoram in domestic competitions.
K Lalremruata's death occurred during the Khaled Memorial Second Division Screening Tournament held at Suaka cricket grounds near the Sairang Railway (Railway Station) close to Aizawl. He was playing for Venghnuai Raiders C.C. versus Chawnpui ILMOV C.C. at the time of his collapse immediately after coming off the crease. Eyewitnesses and officials confirmed that he became unconscious moments after feeling chest discomfort. The Cricket Association of Mizoram subsequently released a statement confirming that K Lalremruata suffered a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) during the match and extended their condolences to K Lalremruata's family, calling his death a tremendous loss to cricket in Mizoram.

Lalremruata was a representative of Mizoram on two occasions at the Ranji Trophy and made seven appearances at the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, indicating his consistent presence in domestic cricket. In addition to competing at the state level, he remained heavily involved in cricket at the grassroots level by playing for multiple clubs and supporting the growth of the sport at the grass-roots level. In addition, Lalnghinglova Hmar, the Sports and Youth Services Minister of Mizoram, expressed deep sadness over his loss. He stated in his condolence message that Lalremruata had experienced breathing problems shortly before his collapse while on the field of play.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of K Lalremruata, who collapsed during a cricket match today. My heartfelt condolences go out to his bereaved family, friends, and members of the sporting fraternity during this difficult time,” Hmar said.
