With the series already sealed after India’s victories in the first two encounters at the Arun Jaitley Stadium against Afghanistan, India were invited to bat first during the third encounter, and their opener, Abhishek Sharma, seemed to be waiting for the exact chance, as he showed his six-hitting skill.

Afghanistan won the toss and decided to bowl first on the surface, having failed to bat well during the first two games of the series. India’s captain, Shreyas Iyer, revealed that they would have fielded anyway and made just one change in the line-up as Yash Thakur replaced Arshdeep Singh.

Abhishek’s first six of the evening came against Azmatullah Omarzai when the left-handed batter put the pacer over deep square leg for a six before finishing the over in the same fashion over the sweeper cover region. He cracked two successive sixes in the third over against Fazalhaq Farooqi.

Mohammad Nabi had a nightmare when he was welcomed into the attack by two sixes from Sanju Samson before Abhishek smashed a massive six to celebrate his half-century off just 16 balls. That was his sixth fifty in under 20 balls, which is the most instances by any player in the history.

Abhisek clubbed two more sixes against Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman in the eighth over of the innings before pulling the short ball over the deep mid-wicket region for a 99-meter six. His evening ended after nailing 11 sixes in just 34 balls.

How India got off to a blistering start in the 3rd T20I

India posted a massive score of 100 runs without any damage inside the powerplay as Abhishek was unbeaten on 76 runs off 22 balls before completing his century in just 30 balls, making it the fastest ever T20I centuries among the Test playing nations, getting past Sikandar Raza and Finn Allen.

It was also the third fastest ever T20I century behind 27-ball from Sahil Chauhan and 29-ball from Muhammad Fahad. He was finally dismissed for 108 runs off just 34 balls, thanks to nine boundaries and 11 sixes as India reached 142/1 at the half-way mark.

On the other hand, Samson contributed 42 runs off just 28 balls and was unbeaten in the middle. None of the Afghanistan bowlers had any clue of how to stop the Indian side.

Brief Scores: India 152/2 (Abhishek Sharma 108, Rashid Khan 1/23) vs Afghanistan
