In-form opener Abhishek Sharma continued his terrific form with the bat in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4 match against Sri Lanka on Friday, September 26, in Dubai. The left-hander maintained his reputation as the tournament's most consistent batter, cutting up the Lankan bowlers with his aggressive batting.

Abhishek's most brilliant shot came without long to wait in the innings. Before long, he welcomed offspinner Maheesh Theekshana with an 88-metre six in the second over. Theekshana sent an inviting delivery into the slot just outside leg stump, and the southpaw made a small backward step before launching the ball into the second tier into the mid-wicket boundary for a monster six. Here was yet another sign of his confidence and form.

Abhishek Sharma shines as India stay unbeaten

With this effort, Abhishek has now made over 250 runs in the tournament in only 6 innings, making him the tournament's leading scorer in the Asia Cup 2025. The 25-year-old already has two innings of 74 (39) against Pakistan and 75 (37) against Bangladesh that were key in winning those contests for India in the Super 4 match wins. Not done there, in a match earlier this year against England, Abhishek blasted 135 runs off 54 balls, showing that he is simply one of the most dangerous opening batters in world cricket.

Despite India suffering an early blow in the match with Shubman Gill going cheaply for just four runs, the right-handed opener being caught and bowled by Theekshana and showcasing a rather muted performance compared to his partner, at the time of writing, India was well placed, at 59/1 in the first five overs, Abhishek batting on 41 off 19 balls and skipper Suryakumar Yadav on 10 runs.

India has gone unbeaten in the competition so far this year, under Suryakumar's captaincy, and looks to make it six in a row against Pakistan on September 28 at the same venue, in the final repeat in an attempt to claim a record-extending ninth Asia Cup title against its historical rival.

In contrast to India's impressive showing thus far, Sri Lanka's campaign has come to an unfortunate and disappointing end in their losses against Bangladesh and Pakistan, leading Charith Asalanka's squad to the headline on account of not being competitive any longer in the tournament, with the final being strictly between India and Pakistan.
